BLMS Reads: Novel Study

Monday, September 27, 2021, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Black Lives Matter Sudbury is pleased to present the fourth and final installment of BLMS Reads: Novel Study!

Author Jael Richardson will be joining us virtually on Monday, September 27, from 7 to 9 p.m., as we discuss her national best-selling novel, Gutter Child.

The fictional work centers Elimina, a teenage girl, trying to survive in a world that systematically oppresses and devalues people like herself – namely, “gutter children” – who are taught to strive towards a life on the privileged Mainland. Her journey has many twists and turns, leading her to begin questioning what she truly wants to strive towards.

Virtual events each month from June to September

This summer, we are launching Black Lives Matter Reads, a literary series geared to increase awareness of Black Canadian authors in all genres.

We will introduce you to new and seasoned Black Canadian authors, as well as local BIPOC writers with stories that we know are not often heard within mainstream society.
