Legacy in Motion - Exhibition

From June 12 to July 12, 2025, Black Lives Matter – Sudbury hosted Legacy In Motion: A Five-Year Retrospective, a special exhibition honouring the movement’s powerful work and impact over the past five years.

The retrospective traced the local impact of BLM Sudbury, from grassroots resistance to the creation of vibrant Black cultural spaces, highlighting the contributions of creatives and organizers shaping the social and political landscape of Northern Ontario.

The exhibition opened with a special reception on Thursday, June 12, from 6:00 – 10:00 PM. Renowned activist, abolitionist, and author Robyn Maynard delivered welcoming remarks, grounding the evening in reflection, resistance, and a shared vision.

The exhibition then travelled to Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario (GNO) from August 15 to 17, 2025, as part of Up Here 11. This second stop continued to reflect on half a decade of BLM Sudbury’s work, highlighting the people and stories shaping a more just future in Northern Ontario.
