As a volunteer-led organization, we rely on our dedicated team of volunteers to keep our operations running smoothly.

  • What can you expect when volunteering with BLMS?

    Providing support throughout your volunteer experience.

    Providing and maintaining an inclusive environment committed to accessibility, anti-racism, and anti-colonial values.

    Explaining the standards we expect and to encourage and support you to achieve and maintain them.

    Providing training required to undertake the role.

    Reimbursing agreed out-of-pocket expenses.

    Providing adequate training and ensuring you know what to do to stay safe, including Ontario Health and Safety training and AODA training.

    Ensuring that all volunteers are treated fairly.

    Follow up on any feedback or questions you may have regarding your involvement as a volunteer.

  • What positions are available?

    General Committee Member
    Support ongoing initiatives and actions by contributing your time and skills to help advance our mission.

    Indigenous Liaison
    For individuals who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nation, Métis, Inuit, or other), this role centers Indigenous perspectives within our work.

    Francophone Consultant
    For individuals who self-identify as Francophone, providing guidance and insight to ensure our work is inclusive and accessible.

    Safety Marshal
    Assist in creating safe and enjoyable events. This role is ideal for non-BIPOC allies looking to use their privilege to support our communities.

    Secretary
    A key leadership role within our Black-led Executive Board, open to individuals who self-identify as Black.

    Call List Volunteer
    Support the organization in any capacity, from individual events to ongoing initiatives, helping us stay connected with our community.

Community Relations

  • Black Lives Matter Sudbury values building strong community connections with organizations working to dismantle systemic racism and address anti-Black and anti-Indigenous oppression.

    Collaboration allows us to amplify collective efforts, share knowledge, and support initiatives that create meaningful change in our city. Intersectional work ensures that all forms of oppression are recognized and addressed.
